Privacy policy

SiteKeeper is an early-stage product concept. This website exists to find out whether it’s worth building, so the main thing we collect is your answers to a short research questionnaire. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
SiteKeeper is a project of Ainley Digital, run by Simon Ainley, based near Huddersfield, UK. Ainley Digital is the data controller for information collected on this website.

What we collect and why
| Questionnaire answers | Your answers about how you manage websites today. We use them to understand the problem and decide whether to build SiteKeeper. Answers are anonymous unless you choose to give contact details. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: researching a product idea, in a way that has minimal impact on you. |
|---|---|
| Contact details (optional) | If you say you’re open to a conversation, we ask for your email address and, optionally, your name and company. We only keep these if you tick the consent box, and we only use them to contact you about SiteKeeper research or early testing. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. |
| Early-testing interest | If you tick the early-testing box, we record that so we can invite you when there’s something to try. Same basis and same use as above. |
| Abuse protection | To stop automated spam, we keep a one-way, salted hash of your IP address for up to 24 hours. We can’t turn it back into your IP address and we don’t link it to your answers. |
| Website analytics | We use Plausible Analytics to count visits, see where visitors come from and measure which buttons are used and how many people start and finish the questionnaire. Plausible doesn’t use cookies or collect personal data, and its data is stored in the EU. |
What we don’t do
- We don’t add you to a mailing list or send marketing emails.
- We don’t sell or share your information with anyone for their own use.
- We don’t publish your answers. If we ever want to quote you, we’ll ask first, and we won’t name you or your company without permission.
- We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies. This site sets no cookies at all.
Who handles your information for us
Responses are stored in a database on servers operated by Ainley Digital in the UK. When a response arrives, a copy is sent to Simon’s email inbox so he can read it. These services act on our instructions only.
How long we keep it
We keep questionnaire responses for up to 12 months, then delete them. If you withdraw consent, we delete your contact details straight away. Anonymised summaries, such as “14 of 30 people use spreadsheets”, may be kept longer because they can’t identify anyone.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your information;
- stop using your information, or withdraw your consent to being contacted.
Email simon@ainley.digital and we’ll respond within one month. Because anonymous responses don’t contain contact details, we can only find yours if you tell us roughly when you submitted it and what you said.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If SiteKeeper moves beyond research, this policy will change. We’ll update the date above and won’t use information you’ve already given in a new way without telling you.
